Jewelry for a Cause – Supporting the Historic Route 66 Meramec Bridge
The Meramec Bridge, a national landmark and key link to the historic Route 66 needs community support in order to be saved from demolition. A coalition of non-profits have joined forces to raise the needed $650,000 to save this important structure, and Maija Brianne Jewelry has joined the efforts with a Warren Truss Bridge inspired necklace in which 25% of the proceeds will be donated to the cause.
|Now you can literally wear your support for saving this important structure for all to see. Available in brass and stainless steel, this pendant necklace replicates the truss structure of the bridge and communicates the importance of our built environment – all while supporting a great cause. Available both online as well local retail locations listed below.|
The Meramec River Route 66 Bridge is located in Missouri's Route 66 Park (St. Louis County). The bridge was constructed in 1931-32 to serve the needs of America’s new federal highway. Today Route 66 is an international attraction that draws thousands of tourists each year. In the State of Missouri there is only one Warren truss Route 66 bridge -- and it is worth saving.
The coalition of non-profit organizations that are working to save the bridge include the Route 66 Association of Missouri, Great Rivers Greenway, Trailnet, Landmarks Association of St. Louis, St. Louis County Parks & Recreation, Open Space Council and Missouri Alliance for Historic Preservation. Additional information as well as the opportunity to donate directly is available through https://www.gofundme.com/Meramec-66-Bridge.
The goal is to raise $650,000 prior to the end of 2016 which will form an endowment for the Missouri State Parks to take ownership and maintain the bridge. If this goal is not reached, the bridge will be demolished in 2017 and all donated money will be made available to Route 66 State Park that will preserve a section of the bridge and design an interpretive exhibit.
