Pennsylvania Truss Bridges

Trussing is created by a series of triangles within a single plane and the combination of the order and sizes of the triangles make up the different types of truss bridges.  The Pennsylvania truss bridge is a variation of the Pratt Truss and is named after the Pennsylvania Railroad which pioneered this design. Once used for hundreds of bridges, it fell out of favor in the 1930s very few of Pennsylvania Truss bridges remain.   Some examples include:  Fair Oaks Bridge in Sacramento County, Schell Bridge in Northfield Massachusetts, Inclined Plane Bridge in Johnstown Pennsylvania, and the Healdsburg Memorial Bridge in Heldsburg, California.
