Gracefully connecting two land forms, bridges are a symbol of connectivity and a demonstration of the incredible engineering feats of humankind. These earrings designed to replicate the towers in which the cables are suspended in between. The 1" steel earring hangs from a handformed earrwire of sterling silver.
The structural elements are simplified with effort given to retaining the essence of the form. The engineering behind the structure of the bridge is incredible and complex, and the design beautiful and inspiring.

This design is based upon the Tacoma Narrows Bridge that is a pair of suspension bridges that span the Tacoma Narrows. Connecting Tacoma and Kitsap Peninsula, Historically the bridge was known as “Galloping Gertie” because of movement of the bridge during windy conditions, and in fact collapsed 4 months after opening in 1940 due to aeroelastic flutter. The original bridge was replaced in 1950, and a second bridge was built in 2007. At the time of their construction, both the 1940 and 1950 bridges were the 3rd longest suspension bridges in the world in terms of main span length, behind the Golden Gate Bridge and George Washington Bridge. The 1950 and 2007 bridges are now the fifth-longest suspension bridge spans in the United States, and the 38th-longest in the world
